Approved methods for sampling and analysis of water pollutants in NSW

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has produced new approved methods for the sampling and analysis of water pollutants in NSW. Once finalised and released, the new approved methods will replace the current approved methods for the sampling and analysis of water pollutants in NSW dated 2004.

The key changes include:

  • greater clarity on when EPA approval is needed for modifications and alternative methods
  • removal of a minor number of methods
  • removal of dates from the listed methods to future-proof the methods
  • more guidance on sampling and record keeping requirements

Licensees and others regulated by the EPA must make sure consultants and laboratories use the approved methods.

The approved methods for water pollutants will be of interest to you if you are required, through an environment protection licence or statutory instrument, to sample and analyse water pollutants or you are a laboratory or consultant that carries out this work for persons regulated by the EPA.

The new approved methods for the sampling and analysis of water pollutants in NSW is available for download from the document library to the right. The document library also includes a comparison table of proposed changes against the current approved methods dated 2004.
